Slowdown at Hollyfast

Allesley, Coventry, Warks

15 - 17th May 2009

Hollyfast is a quiet, shady site with small pitches and where cars are required to park in the car park. This gives a nice uncluttered look that is arguably worth the inconvenience of not having your car next to you. Of course the lucky ones with motorhomes had the best of both worlds.

This was our third visit and we were hoping that the bad weather that blighted the previous two would not put in a repeat performance. Sadly it was not to be. Heavy showers and strong winds were the order of the day. At least the many trees put a brake on the wind.

One of the best bits of Hollyfast for rallies is its excellent function room. Bright, dry, airy and heated, it is the perfect venue for get togethers and celebrations. There is even a small stage and a dance floor. The only downside was the noise made by the rain on the roof! The function room also made an ideal venue for the long Committee meeting that seemed to take up so much of Saturday. What did they find to talk about all day?

The Saturday evening get together featured an American supper (where everyone contributes something) and a very special celebration. Colin and Betty Patterson celebrated their 400th rally and Colin his 60th birthday. As Colin said, it was mighty thoughtful of his parents to arrange his birthday to coincide with his 400th rally! Colin & Betty were presented with a special plaque by John Brailsford and Colin received many cards and gifts from fellow ralliers. In accordance with the norm at such SOC celebrations, food and drink were in abundance. Thanks to Colin & Betty for the drink and the scrumptious cake.

The sad bit was having to go home on the Sunday. At least we have plenty more rallies to look forward to. Who knows, maybe even a return visit in nice weather? Many thanks to the marshals - Sarah Crossley & Tony Goodsell with Rachel and Sharon & Steve Horn - you did a great job.
