David Hopkins (Senior)

I was very sad to hear that long-standing member David Hopkins (Senior) died peacefully at home yesterday morning after a short illness.

David along with his wife Vonnie joined the SOC in 2000. They have rallied with the Club for many years and marshalled rallies both in the UK and abroad.

David also served on the committee from 2003-2006 as ACM for Area 5.

He will be greatly missed by many of our members who have rallied with him and had the pleasure of his company.

Our thoughts are with Vonnie and family at this sad time.

I will pass on funeral details here in the Members’ News as soon as I receive them from his son David who is also a member.

CHANGE OF DIRECTIONS TO RALLY No. 20 LYMINGTON

ROUTE: From M27 take junction 2 on to A326. Follow the signs to Beaulieu, past the Garage turn left at ‘T’ junction towards Lymington on A3054. Go past the Walhampton Arms pub and down the hill. Carry on at the bottom of the hill towards the town and ferry, do not turn right towards the town centre but go left towards Ferry Terminal. Go past the IOW Ferry Terminal, after 400 yds just past Elmers Court Hotel, turn right into Lilse Court Road which is just opposite the PYO Nursery, follow SOC Signs.

If you are approaching from Lymington on the A337, from the North or the South turn towards the Isle of Wight Ferry Terminal on the A3054. At the bottom of the hill turn right then left following the signs for IOW Ferry, go over the railway crossing , over the river then at the end of the bridge turn right and follow past the Terminal as above.

SPRING BANK HOLIDAY in KENT (Not in the Rally Book) from 24th May to 1st June.

We would love you to join us at this Rare Breeds Farm (with EHU) which was originally an Easter rally.

Very sadly, due to extreme weather conditions leaving the entire farm virtually waterlogged and after detailed discussions with the Site Owners and their team and taking into account the weather forecast for that area on Thursday and Friday, we have had no alternative but to cancel Rally No:11 over the Easter weekend.

Marshals details and rally location can be found on page 32 of your Rally Book under the originally planned rally.

Many of those originally booked for Easter have transferred to the new dates. However there are a few vacancies left so please  contact us ASAP if you would like to join us.

Find Where To Get Your Refillable Gas Cylinders Filled

Now that so many service stations have stopped selling LPG, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find where to get cylinders refilled, especially those that are not easily removeable from a leisure vehicle.

I have used the mylpg.eu website or their smartphone app for several years and it has been very helpful here in the UK and abroad. During that time there have been many improvements made and new features added. One very useful facility is to be able to view locations on an interactive map and be able to apply filters to home in on what you require such as Easy Access, Confirmed availability in last 3 months etc.

Recently member Dave Coller contacted the developers suggesting the addition of a filter for locations where the filling of Safefill cylinders was allowed. This filter was added very quickly on the website and works well. (Note that you need to click on the map to activate it and then you can apply filters). As the filters are not very easy to find on a smartphone the developer has it on his To Do Soon list’. In the meantime he has provided a direct link to the map and filters page (https://www.mylpg.eu/stations/united-kingdom/#map) for saving on a smartphone as an icon on the Home Page of your ‘phone for quick access. If you’re not sure how to do that I suggest asking Google.
