Many thanks to all of the members that manned the SOC stand at the NEC.  Through your efforts, we signed up 39 new members, well done to you All.

I have received the following details from Phil Capes who is collating names of attendees on behalf of Ian’s family:

Ian’s funeral will be held at Trent Valley Crematorium, Derby Road, Aston on Trent, Derby, DE72 2AF on Monday 7th November 2022 at 12.30pm and afterwards at The Lawns Hotel, Chellaston, Derby, DE73 6TB for refreshments.

Those wishing to attend are asked by the family to notify Phil/Patsy Capes of their attendance by telephoning 01522 683230 or Mobile 07949318845 by 1st. November 2022 so that they are aware and can notify the Hotel accordingly.

I have just been informed that former member Aileen Brice from Beverley, who rallied with husband Chris for many years, sadly passed away today. Aileen and Chris were members for many years and I’m sure will be remembered by many of our current members.

For those who may wish to attend, I will publish funeral details here in the Members’ News as soon as I get them.

I have received the sad news that long-standing member Geoff Ball passed away recently. I will pass on any further information I receive here in the Members’ News.

Geoff (with his late wife Sandra) from Welshpool joined the SOC in 2005 and they were regular ralliers until Sandra became ill a few years ago.

Geoff will be sadly missed by the many members who had the pleasure of his company.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

The committee are aware that the amended date printed in Going Places for the AGM 2023 coincides with the King’s Coronation. This was announced after Going Places had gone to print. The committee met yesterday to discuss the situation and various options are being considered and enquiries being made regarding dates and venues.

Members will be fully updated as soon as possible.

I was very sad to hear that long-standing member Ian Brown passed away in hospital this afternoon. I will pass on any further information I receive here in the Members’ News.

Ian (with his late wife Sonia) from Chellaston, Derby joined the SOC in 1978 and was a regular rallier until he retired from caravanning and became an Honorary Life Member. I know Ian kept in touch with many members personally and also through the Club’s Facebook page. He will be sadly missed.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Lowdhams, of Gunthorpe, Nottingham, who advertise with us, are holding a 2023 model preview over 4th – 6th November and would welcome a display stand detailing about our Club which could well encourage new members. 

Due to the imminent time scale, are there any members who would be willing to volunteer to man the stand on any of the days, morning or afternoon?

NB: If you have previously set up and still have a valid Direct Debit mandate for the SOC Annual Subscriptions, no action is required and you will be notified at least 3 days prior to the collection date each year.

The ongoing postal strike is planned on several more days in October and November. I suggest that if you have booked a rally by post and haven’t received any confirmation in a reasonable time, to contact the marshals to check that it has arrived safely.
