We would hate to lose you so, If you haven’t already renewed, please remember that you need to renew your membership before the end of the month to be able to book any rallies in 2025.
Those of you who are attending either of the New Year rallies must definitely have renewed by that time.
The quickest way to renew now is online by debit/credit card or PayPal (other methods available)
Why not do it now while it is fresh on your mind?

After much soul searching, Barbara & I have decided to call time on our caravan and motorhome travels.
We first bought a caravan in 1976 (complete with gas lighting but little else!) and we haven’t been without a van or a motorhome since. It was another twenty five years before we bought our first Swift and not long after, joined the SOC. That must rank as one of our best decisions ever – our time in the club has gone a long way towards filling our retirement years with happy memories too many to mention. We were able to satisfy our wanderlust by travelling widely throughout the UK and Europe in the company of great friends with whom we had so much fun – Xmas party rallies in the snow (some will remember those hilarious games of ‘onespot’), black tie ‘all inclusive’ new year rallies, SOC go karting championships at Castle Combe, Pudsey bear being kidnapped & auctioned at a Children in Need rally – the list is endless. And of course continental rallies in France, Holland, Spain, Italy, Germany & more with memories such as meals in fabulous chateaux, flower parades in Holland, celebrating Spain’s world cup win late at night in the plaza of a Spanish town, grandchildren having breakfast with Mickey Mouse at Disneyland, visiting Colditz and numerous impromptu fun packed (& often wine filled) ‘awning parties’ which lasted late into warm summer evenings – what a great 20+ years we have had.
So as we close the SOC chapter and move into a more settled phase of our retirement in our villa in Spain, Barbara and I can reflect on how lucky we have been. Great friends, past and present, to whom we owe a huge debt of thanks for all the fun we have had. And a heartfelt vote of thanks to all those who have helped the club be as brilliant as it is by serving on the committee and marshalling rallies – without you none of this would have been possible.
We will stay in touch as Honorary Life Members.

Why not get your rallying season off to an early start on rally number 1 and shake off those winter blues? Currently there are still 5 spaces available on this rally which the marshals are keen to fill. As an addition to the rally book entry the draft rally programme is as follows:-
Wednesday 22nd Rally opens 1pm – Informal welcome drinks at the Carnarvon from 7pm Thursday 23rd Free day – Burns Night Dinner (pre-ordered @£35 per head) at the Carnarvon 7pm for 7.30pm Friday 24th Free day – Social & quiz at Teversal Village Hall 6.30-10.30pm Saturday 25th Optional breakfast cobs & tea/coffee (pre-ordered) at Teversal Visitor Centre ~9.30am - Rest of day free. Social & quiz plus Flag & raffle at Teversal Visitor Centre 6.30pm-~10.30pm Sunday 26th Rally closes at midday
Social costs (indicative) £6 per van + Saturday breakfast @£5 per head for those partaking
Further information is available in the earlier post of 08/10/24
Please note: There are discrepancies in the rally book. In the rally details on page 24 ‘Rally Opens ‘ says Thursday 22nd and it should be Wednesday 22nd. Page 22 has the rally dates as 23rd-27th (original draft dates), but the dates on page 24 (the rally page itself) are correct as 22nd-26th January.
Please note there is a Product Recall for Flogas Gold Butane Gas Cylinder presenting a risk of fire.

I have been ask by the marshals Stan & Gaynor to let you know that they have several spaces available on this 4 night rally (29th December to 2nd Jan 2025)
The full details of this rally near Selby, North Yorkshire can be found on page 74 of your Rally Venues Book.
PLEASE NOTE there was a change of marshal after the book went to print. Please contact Stan Mountford if you are interested, by email to stan1948@talktalk.net or call 0786 155774 for more information.
Please do not confuse the change of marshal with the other New Year Rally at Maidenhead whose marshals are still Phil & Val Metcalf.

The Autumn edition of Going Places includes some of the interim results from the Cook Book survey responses so far (eleven to date). The full set of the interim results are provided below, and these provide a flavour (pardon the pun) of how members cook in their units. However, more responses will provide more meaningful results, and to this end I have extended the survey deadline to the end of the year to allow you to do so. It really is very simple to complete and not an onerous task, so please do fill it in. The link to the survey is SOC Cook Book Survey and please do keep recipes coming by sending to recipes@swift-owners-club.com As promised, I have included another one in Autumn Going places, which will be out soon.
An example version of the Cook Book will also be available soon to stimulate further interest and the submission of more recipes for inclusion. This is Your Cook Book and will contain Your recipes. All recipes sent in will be included, and editorial control will not extend to deciding what should or shouldn’t be included, so you send it and I’ll add it to the book, as long as it is a proper recipe.
So let’s continue to Cook & Share – Yvonne Lovett
